Multi-Zone Ductless AC Installed in Framingham Cape Home

The Problem: A cape-style home in Framingham, MA, needed to upgrade its oil heating system to something more energy-efficient that would provide zones of control over the temperature in the house.

The Solution: N.E.T.R., Inc., installed a Mitsubishi multi-zone ductless AC to provide the family with complete control over the comfort of their home. This system is highly efficient and qualified the owners for $4,375 in rebates!

The Design

Because of the home’s design, N.E.T.R., Inc., proposed a multi-zone ductless system to replace the oil heating system and provide air conditioning for the house. This new Mitsubishi ductless AC system would provide high-quality temperature control over the various rooms in the home separately from one another.

The two bedrooms would each need a ductless AC mounted on the walls. Additionally, the kitchen and the family room would have ductless wall-mounted units installed in them as well. These zones of control will help the family save on their energy bills and keep each room at the ideal temperature without straining a central system operating on a single thermostat.

Outside the home, a single outdoor condenser unit with a high-efficiency ductless heat pump will provide temperature control to the indoor ACs.

The Installation

Outside the home, a cold-climate outdoor condenser unit was mounted on a poured concrete pad to keep it above the ground. Next, new refrigerant and drain lines were piped along the outside of the home and covered with line cover.

Inside, each of the ductless wall units will be positioned on the wall of its room, where it will provide the best airflow. Before mounting, the technician will drill a small hole into the wall and snake piping through the space. This piping connects the outdoor heat pump to the indoor mini-split and allows the air to travel through the home without losing energy.

After the piping is run, the ductless unit is installed on the wall, hooked up to the system, and everything is checked to make sure it’s in working order.

The Benefits

Because of the energy efficiency of this Mitsubishi ductless system, the family was able to qualify for a $4,375 rebate for replacing their oil heating system. Because this ductless system offers high-quality heating on top of the air conditioning ability, the family can enjoy year-round comfort from a single system!
